Eddie Elgonitis - Wilkes' "Mailroom Marvel" For nearly 40 years, Eddie Elgonitis has been a fixture on the Wilkes campus. You may remember him from his position behind the mailroom counter in the Henry Student Center or his regular seat behind the cheerleaders at basketball games the Marts Gym. Alumni Board President Cynthia Charnetski ’97 Has Sights Set on Success Cynthia Charnetski ’97 has a long history with Wilkes. She grew up on campus. Her father, Carl Charnetski ’70, has been a professor of psychology here for decades. Now an optometrist at Northeastern Eye Institute and the new president of the Alumni Association board of directors, Cindy discusses her goals for the association, and her ideas on engaging alumni.
Dr. Mark Stair ’70 Shares Passion for Veterinary Practice With Wilkes Student Wilkes junior biology major Brianna Smith’s part-time position at the Trucksville Dog and Cat Hospital is more than a job. It’s an opportunity to be mentored by Dr. Mark Stair ’70 at his practice in Dallas, Pa., and to explore her passion for the veterinary field. Luzerne County SHINE Program at Wilkes University Marks Successful First Year The Luzerne County SHINE Program at Wilkes University marked its first year of bringing educational opportunity to students with a Dec. 20 celebration at the West Side Career and Technical Center. The after school program, launched in 2015, now serves more than 300 students in pre-K through eighth grade from five school districts. In addition to marking the program’s first anniversary, the event served to announce that SHINE will open its eighth center at Lee Park Elementary School in the Hanover Area School District in early 2017.
Jeanie Cronin Coomber ’90 Jeanie Cronin Coomber ’90 has more than 25 years of experience as executive and leadership coach. Her motivation for her business comes from her own life experiences and her great skills in developing relationships.
Chuck Allabaugh '82 Chuck Allabaugh ’82 has worked for his current employer for more than 25 years, and he credits Wilkes for helping get him there.
Alumni Association Board of Directors Elects New Leadership for 2017 In March 2017, the Alumni Association Board of Directors elected new leadership and five new directors.
2017 Alumni Scholarship Recipient Nicole Cumbo '18 was awarded the Alumni Association Scholarship. Nicole is a biology major, with a minor in chemistry. She is an active student on campus through her involvement in the women’s division III softball team, Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, the dance team, Pre-Professional Society, and the Badminton Club.
