Memorial Concert for Dr. Steven Thomas

After months of anticipating both a safe and appropriate time to celebrate the life of Dr. Steven Thomas, we have finally established a date for his official Memorial Concert. Wilkes University choral students and alumni, the Lyric Consort and the Arcadia Chorale will be joined by Canon Mark Laubach, organist, and members of the Arcadia Chorale’s Bach Festival Orchestra in performances of repertoire that was meaningful to Dr. Thomas. On Sunday, May 1, 2022, our ensembles look forward to honoring our friend, mentor and colleague.

We hope you will join our voices in song for Dr. Thomas this May. We are inviting fully vaccinated alumni to join the combined choirs to sing two pieces: “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” (Lutkin) and “Ride the Chariot” (arr. Smith). As you know, Dr. Thomas loved his students over the many years he spent at Wilkes, and this concert will pay tribute to the legacy he has left behind.

The concert will be held at St. Stephen's Church on Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1st.The deadline to register is April 8th. The event will be recorded for those who cannot be in attendance.

Although conditions have recently been improving to allow for live choral performances, masking at this gathering will be required.

Alumni who would like to sing the two pieces should arrive at St. Stephen’s at 3:15 for a combined rehearsal. All singers must be fully vaccinated and wear a mask per venue’s protocols.
